Word Web App vs. Google Documents

People expect existing Word documents from their desktop to look identical when they share them in the cloud. In this demo, you will see completely different results when viewing the same document using Word Web App and using Google Documents.

We saved the same Word file on Microsoft SkyDrive (or SharePoint) and Google Apps. The circles highlight key file integrity differences when viewing the file through Word Web App and viewing it with Google Documents.
  • Word Web App

    Header: Word Web App displays the header exactly as it appears in the original document. Viewing with Google Documents, the header moves to a different location and the style changes.Footer: Word Web app displays the footer exactly as it appears in the original document. Viewing the document in Google documents the footer is missing.Watermark: Word Web App displays the “CONFIDENTIAL” watermark, matching the original document exactly. Viewing the document in Google Documents, the watermark is missing.Table Format: Content remains intact in both versions. Word Web App maintains the original format, and Google Documents changed the table formatting.Chart: Word Web app displays the chart exactly as it appears in the original document, while viewing in Google Documents removes the chart.Smart Art: Word Web App displays the Smart Art globes exactly as shown in the original document, while the same Smart Art is missing when viewed in Google Documents.
